Puremagnetik Lore is an open-source, constantly-updated experimental sound environment with granular synthesis, spectral delays and many other upcoming features Puremagnetik is a plugin developer and music label from USA. In addition to their Ableton Live devices, the developers have made a name for themselves with very clear, simple plugins with experimental ideas. From granular synthesis, spectral processing, physical modeling to a drone synth, they have experimented with many ideas. With Lore they go beyond its beloved experimental minimalist concept and shows for the first time, a powerful, experimental sound console. Puremagnetik Lore Lore is an experimental sound environment/console consisting of different synthesis and effect processors. The development is ongoing and is entirely funded by the community. Puremagnetik artist and lead developer Micah Frank promises a lot of updates for the future. Currently, Lore is a granular and spectral effect processor plugin. It break down audio into tiny particles that can be stretched, spectrally delayed and surgically altered on very specific frequency bands. From there everything can be modulated for dynamically shifting, constantly-evolving sound sculpture. Sounds promising.
Open-Source However, Lore is not a classic plugin or software release. It has a different, refreshing business model. It’s open-source and and its engine is built on a powerful Csound engine that can you can download for free from GitHub. There is also a plugin version which is available exclusively for members of the Lore subscription and Patreon. But there is another, somewhat clumsy, way to get it. With all the data available you can compile the VST and AU version yourself. Further, Puremagnetik promises monthly updates with new features to explore. Here are some that they have plan to include in the future: animated reverb particle delay analog (tape loop) processor drone synth spectral morph, crush and freezing ambisonics mixing and rendering convolution reverb with IR library segmented envelopes and LFO modulators and more… (full list on the website) Lore is a very interesting project. I’m very excited to see what features will be added in the next 2 months. The open source idea is great here. This means that experimental music with a smaller budget can also explore the software without being a paying supporter. One thing is certain: I will continue to follow Micah Frank’s and Puremagnetik’s project. It is the company’s largest to date.
