You can now place your pre-order for the new Acorn Amplifiers TMA-1 fuzz pedal. This pedal bears an uncanny resemblance to HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey. But rather than turning sentient, it has lots of sweet fuzz clipping options instead. ADVERTISEMENT Acorn Amplifiers TMA-1 Fuzz The Acorn Amplifiers Fuzz TMA-1 Fuzz features not one, but four stages of transistor fuzz, with a series of selectable diode clipping options. This gives you the choice of flicking between classic germanium and silicon diodes, and makes for a nice flexible fuzz circuit. Each pedal is hand-made in the Acorn Amplifiers Atlanta, GA workshop, using high-quality components. The units are hand-wired, and come with Switchcraft jacks and true-bypass switching. You can power the pedals with a standard 9V negative tip power supply. All the promo material is also very much in keeping with the theme. You may remember the company’s Dune-themed Mind Killer Dual Distortion, so I think the guys that work there may all be sci-fi fans. Clipping The pedal has controls for Volume, Tone, and Gain, along with two clipping switches that allow you to combine various combinations of the germanium and silicon diodes. These are labelled Clip 1 and Clip 2, and allow you to choose between Germanium or Silicon, on, or off. Fuzz clipping diodes play a large part in a fuzz pedal’s tone and character, so being able to combine them in multiple ways should be a fun way to experiment with the fuzz tone.
